VINYL DECK PRO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long have we been installing vinyl decking?
Vinyl Deck Pro has been installing since 1990. We take pride in being a locally owned and operated business, and we offer every customer the best quality we can.
The quality of each deck is our priority. We warranty the quality of every deck.
How do I get a Free Estimate?
Getting a no-cost estimate for your project is easy. Simply fill out the form below on this page or contact us directly.
Is Vinyl Deck Pro licensed and insured?
Yes. Vinyl Deck Pro is fully licensed and insured. This means homeowners and strata managers are protected throughout the duration of any project on their property. Working with a licensed and insured contractor is the single most important credential to verify before any deck work begins — it protects you against liability, ensures the contractor meets minimum professional standards, and gives you legal recourse if something goes wrong. With Vinyl Deck Pro, that protection is in place before the first crew member steps on your property.
Does Vinyl Deck Pro offer references or reviews?
Yes. Customer reviews are published on the Vinyl Deck Pro website, and contact with past project owners can be arranged for homeowners who want to speak directly with previous clients. When evaluating any contractor for a significant home improvement project, speaking with past customers about their experience — not just reading testimonials — is one of the most reliable ways to assess the quality of workmanship and service. Vinyl Deck Pro is confident enough in the work to make those conversations possible.
What warranty does Vinyl Deck Pro offer on its work?
Unless otherwise specified, Vinyl Deck Pro provides a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty on all installed products, combined with a separate 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation itself. These are two distinct protections. The manufacturer’s warranty covers the vinyl material — its performance, resistance to degradation, and product integrity. The workmanship warranty covers the quality of the installation: the seams, terminations, drain integration, flashing, and every other detail of how the membrane was installed. Both warranties running simultaneously for 10 years gives customers a level of coverage that reflects genuine confidence in both the products used and the standard of installation.
What thicknesses and patterns does Vinyl Deck Pro offer?
Vinyl Deck Pro installs 66-mil vinyl membrane, which is a heavy-gauge commercial-quality product offering excellent durability and long-term resistance to foot traffic, UV exposure, and the sustained moisture contact of Victoria’s wet season. Available patterns include Grey Marble, Brown Marble, Grey Sawcut, Brown Sawcut, Grey, Pearl Plank Brown, Granite Rock, Armor Rock, and Pebblestone. This range covers both traditional stone-look finishes that complement classic home styles and contemporary patterns suited to modern construction. Because material selection directly affects how long your deck looks and performs, Vinyl Deck Pro walks every customer through the options during the free estimate consultation rather than rushing a decision. The right pattern for your project depends on the home’s architecture, the surrounding landscaping, and how the space is intended to be used.
Can I use de-icing products on my vinyl deck in winter?
Yes. Rock salt, kitty litter, and various other snow-melting chemicals can be used on a vinyl deck surface. However, it is important to clean the surface thoroughly with soap and water and rinse it completely before spring temperatures allow the sun to bake any chemical residue into the vinyl surface. Allowing de-icing chemicals to remain on the membrane through warm weather accelerates surface degradation and can cause discolouration. A thorough rinse in late winter or very early spring prevents this. Avoid using sharp metal shovels or ice picks on the vinyl surface — these can puncture or abrade the membrane and create entry points for water.
What is vinyl decking and why is it well-suited to Victoria’s climate?
Vinyl decking is a waterproof membrane system applied over a prepared deck substrate — plywood or another structural surface — to create a sealed, weatherproof outdoor surface. Unlike wood or composite decking, which absorbs moisture and can rot, split, or require regular resealing, vinyl decking forms a continuous, fully waterproof barrier over the entire deck surface. This makes it particularly well-suited to Victoria’s coastal climate, which delivers over 600mm of rainfall annually, the majority of it concentrated between October and March as persistent low-intensity rain. Wood and composite decking surfaces in Victoria require frequent maintenance and eventually fail under sustained moisture exposure. A properly installed vinyl membrane does not absorb water at all — it sheds it entirely, which is why vinyl decking has been the preferred choice across Vancouver Island for decades.
Are glass railings safe and code-compliant?
Yes. The 12mm tempered glass used in glass railing systems is designed and engineered specifically for structural railing applications — it meets the load and impact requirements set out in British Columbia’s building code. Glass railing installations require precision in the post and standoff placement to ensure the glass panels are correctly supported, and the mounting system must be correctly integrated with the deck substrate and structure. Vinyl Deck Pro handles this integration as part of the railing scope. A correctly installed 12mm glass railing system is structurally sound, durable in Victoria’s coastal climate, and requires minimal maintenance beyond occasional cleaning.
